I was going to write something about the shootings in Roseburg, pointing out that it’s become a generic news story now, just fill in the blanks of how many dead and where. Kindergarten? High school? University? Senseless tragedy, gun control, mental health, now is the time, now is not the time, armed guards, come together, community healing, president reacts, blah, blah, blah fucking blah. Last sentence: nothing happens. Nothing at all.

Then I saw this headline: There is no catastrophe so ghastly that America will reform its gun laws, and clicked on the story. It said most of the things I planned to say in the first two paragraphs. I was about to move on when I realized he wrote this almost a year and a half ago, about the shootings in Santa Barbara, and that since then there have been several more mass killings. So I kept going.

Even if you don’t read the whole thing, please read the last paragraph. I am with him on that. I am sick and tired of hearing people say how much they care about this shit. We, as a country, DO NOT CARE. We have decided to accept a Newtown or worse every few weeks. So shut the fuck up about what a damn shame this new shooting is.

And here’s the killer, in the last line:

“… let’s just all look each other in the eye and say: “Shit happens.”

Which happens to be what Jeb Bush had to say about it. He was just too wimpy to say shit.
