The East

(2013)

Here is a nifty little film about misbehaving CEOs of major companies, and a group that set about to expose them and make them pay. Britt Marling plays an undercover agent who is suffering from the stresses of leading a double life, and undergoing a crisis of confidence in that she begins to see that her employers are much, much worse than the environmental nuts … who are not all that nuts. I will say that I don’t approve of spiking trees, burning down buildings, and such like, but the paybacks this group arranges are just too poetically just for me to condemn them too much. Like, spiking the punch at a big party with the chemical that everyone there has sworn up and down is absolutely harmless … you just sort of gotta love that, don’t you?
